Esterification multi-wall carbon nanotubes as anode modifier for microbial fuel cells application
1.Introduction Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are able to convert various organic compounds even organic wastewaters into electricity.Compared with other fuel cells, the half-reaction on the anode is biochemical reaction catalyzed by exoelectrogenic microbes while that of the cathode is still an chemical reaction, which is similar to the reaction happened in other types of fuel cells. In other words, the anode reaction is the key for high performance of MFCs.Carbon materials such as carbon paper, carbon rod, carbon particles and carbon felt are widely studied as anode material for MFCs.
