Solvent-free preparation of a Cu-C/Fe composite for fast degradation of p-nitrophenol
1.Background Nitroaromatic compounds are important precursors or intermediates for the manufacture of several pharmaceuticals, pesticides, plasticizers, dyes and explosives,so they are often present in industrial wastewaters.Because of their good solubility in water and toxicity,nitro-derivatives represent a potential risk to humans and environment. In particular, the aromatic ring is responsible for their chemical stability and biorecacitrancy, therefore the nitrocompounds are easily accumulated in the environment. For these reasons, many compounds of this class,e.g.p-nitrophenol,are enlisted by US EPA as priority toxic pollutants.
