Transformations of working fluid in diethylene glycol condensation particle counter during atmospheric measurement
Condensation particle counters (CPCs) using diethylene glycol (DEG) as the working fluid were recently developed.Chemical transformations of DEG in CPC was studied.Formaldehyde and formic acid emerged as the oxidation products.Formaldehyde would be oxidized by ozone to formic acid, and formic acid is reducing agent which could be oxidized by ozone to give carbon dioxide. As the oxidation moving on,however, formic acid was less in the mixture, and the resulting activation efficiencies of samples were almost the same as DEG.
