Polarity Rapid Assessment Method: A Better Fractionation Tool for Characterizing NDMA Precursors
Introduction N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) precursor characterization is critical for water professionals to understand the NDMA formation and develop technologies to address the forthcoming regulation all over the world. An easy and selective tool to characterize NDMA precursors in wastewater was developed on the basis of the polarity rapid assessment method (PRAM) (Chen et al.,2014).Strong cation exchange (SCX) cartridge could combine the dimethylamine functional group of NDMA precursors and C 18 cartridge could adsorb their non-polar part.In this study, this tool was first used to characterize the NDMA precursors in drinking water treatment with comparison of the classical resin fractionation.
