Analysis of Nitrogen Cycle in Jiangxi Yufeng Beef Cattle Farm
The Yufeng Beef Cattle Farm, the largest grass-cattle farm in Jiangxi Province, has an area of about 200 ha, including a pasture of 100.67 ha and an orchard of 10 ha, with an annual silage herbage production of 31,700 tons. The herd kept at the farm was around 2200 heads and the number of slaughtered cattle was up to 3000 heads per year.Through the two main models including Manure-Herbage and Manure-Fruit, nitrogen from cattle manure has been fully recycled at the farm. When excluding the external factors such as atmospheric nitrogen deposition, the total nitrogen surplus of the farm was-44,095 kg; the nitrogen surplus of the soil in pasture and orchard was-43,930 kg.The fact that nitrogen surplus was negative indicated a continuous decline of the total amount of soil-surface nitrogen. Thus, the farm needed a certain amount of nitrogen fertilizer input, in order to maintain the nitrogen balance for grass planting.
