　　This paper presents an overview of the history and several programs and their processes that make up the assessment and audit industry that currently exists in the US.Understanding the foundation and history of where these programs started, the timelines in which they developed and how they were developed can help inform new policy and program development avoid the pitfalls that exist in the US.
