Effect of Weakly Alkaline Electrolyzed Water on Production Performance, Egg Quality and Biochemical Parameters of Layers
With the development of animal husbandry, it seems more and more important to search for effective measures to improve animal health. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of weakly alkaline electrolyzed water on production performance, egg quality and biochemical parameters of laying hens in comparison with that of tap water. One hundred and forty-four numbers of Jinghongs 50-week-old commercial layers of were divided into two groups and each treatment had 3 duplicates with 24 layers.Layers in control group drank tap water, while those in experimental group drank weakly alkaline electrolyzed water with pH value between 9.3 and 9.5.Results showed that drinking weakly alkaline electrolyzed water could significantly improve the feed conversion rate (FCR) and Haugh unit (P < 0.05), and, at the same time, result in a downward trend in feed-egg ratio (P < 0.1).However, no significant differences were observed in terms of the production performance, such as feed intake, drinking amount, body weight and egg quality including the weight and color of the yolk, as well as the color, strength and thickness of the egg shell. The amounts of urea nitrogen (UREA), cholesterin(CHO), triglyceride (TG) and alanine transaminase (ALT) showed a major decrease in the experiment group when compared with the control group (P < 0.05), while the level of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and serum creatinine concentration (P > 0.05) remained almost the same.In conclusion, drinking weakly alkaline electrolyzed water had little effect on production performance and eggs quality of layers, but it can obviously increase the biochemical parameters such as ALT, UREA, CHO and TG of layers.
