Bearing capacity and loading characteristics of U-steel cross support structure

  In view of the problems that the U type steel supports have poor overall stability and uneven structure in practical application, a new type of U type steel cross support which is suitable for soft rock entries is presented.Based on the results of similarity and numerical simulations, this paper analyzes and compares the unstable failure characteristics of conventional and new type cross supports in terms of bearing behavior in service and the control effect of surrounding rocks.The experimental results showed that the main mode of failure is conical column bending deformation when it was tested under a loading rate of0.05Mpa/30min.When the loading rate is 0.002 Mpa/s, the supports are prone to have bearing failure of roof beam and overall out-of-plane instability.The structure in the cross arrangement will strengthen the overail stiffness of the supports and the bearing capacity along the entry direction.The bearing capacity of support and the control effect of surrounding rocks are increased substantially.
