The characteristics of surrounding rocks and pressure release effect in ascending miningpanels of high gassy multiple seams

  The characteristics of surrounding rocks in ascending mining panels of high gassy multiple seams and the pressure relief of upper coal seam gas were studied by using FLAC3D numerical simulation method and field measurements.The results showed that there was macroscopical stress shell composed of high stress beams in the process of multiple seam ascending mining, The stress in the shell was higher than that of inside and outside of the shell; The damage and displacement fields in the surrounding rock are developed in the low stress zone under the protection of stress shell; As mining in the upper and lower seam continues in sequence, two stress shells are created superimposing each other.Stress superposition occurs in the stress shell created by the upper seam mining, while stress relief occurs under the shell.Field practice showed that the crocks in the pressure release area which is under the stress shell were better developed so that the gas permeability was increased, and it also improved the effect of gas extraction.
