Gas control techniques for upper adjacent seams in mining of low-permeability highly gassy multiple coal seams
A large quantity of gas are emitted from the upper adjacent seams during mining of # 15 seam in closely-spaced multiple seam mining in the Yangquan mining area of Shanxi, China. To ameliorate the loss of gas, the impacts of geological structure, seam depth, and roof/floor lithology on the occurrence of gas in # 5 Mine in Yangquan were analyzed using the principles of gas geology. The geological characteristics of seam gas was also studied in conjunction with the gas emission characteristics of the mine. The fracture development in the overburden was studied using the key strata theory. The results were used to optimize the gas drainage parameters. The gas control technique and its effects for # 5 Mine were analyzed to provide technical support for gas prevention and control in adjacent seams.
