A Numerical study on the relationship between mining height and shield resistancein longwall panel
Based on the shields operation characteristics, the Continuum-based Distinct Element Method (CDEM) was used to establish a numerical model of shield in longwall mining and carry out the dynamic numerical simulation of the interaction between shield and rock strata movement; Using the geological condition and the operational characteristics of shield in the Ordos coal field as a case example, numerical modeling was carried out to investigate the effects of different mining heights on the caving process, movement characteristics, equilibrium and stability conditions of overburden as well as the interaction between shield and surroundings rocks, thereby revealing the internal factors for change in shield resistance under different mining height. The quantitative relationship between mining height and shield resistance was also obtained by the numerical simulation.
