Change law of the parameters of negative exponent function method to predict surface movement due to underground coal mining

The prediction of surface movement and deformation caused by underground coal mining activities provides an important basis for the design of scientific and reasonable underground mining project and the protection of buildings, railways or water bodies located within the range of mining influence from harmful effects of mining.Negative Exponent Function Method (NEFM) is one of the methods which are widely used to predict the surface movement and deformation at present. It is well known that the prediction precision of NEFM depends largely on the correctness and reliability of its parameters a and b.This paper proposes a methodology to quantitatively research on the change law of parameters a and b of NEFM based on regression analysis method using large amount of measured data. The research results show that the parameter a or b could be expressed as a linear function of mining influence coefficient and thus indicate a strong correlation between parameter a or b and mining influence coefficient. In addition, a case study application demonstrates that the values of the parameters a and b determined by the linear regression Equations given in this paper can be used to effectively predict surface movement due to underground coal mining activities.
