Chlorophyll change and spectral response of corn under iron toxicity stress
Mining development may bring serious damage to the environment and humans life.Corn is one of the most widely distributed crops in the world as well as in iron mining area. However, iron toxicity for crop, which posed a great threat to food security, did not cause enough attention.Remote sensing could provide rapid, large-scale and non-destructive monitoring, and it is a powerful technology of environmental monitoring in the mining area. Therefore, spectral characteristics of corn under iron toxicity stress were studied by means of indoor experiments. To monitor iron contamination effectively, chlorophyll change and spectral response of corn leaf were researched under different concentrations of iron stress. The result showed that: (1) with the increase of concentration of iron stress, chlorophyll content increased at first and then decreased and the maximum value appeared at 500 mg/kg, (2) the red edge slope and spectral indices mND705, mSR705, RVI were related to chlorophyll content of corn leaf and RVI had the best correlation with chlorophyll content, which could be selected as the indicator for remotely sensed monitoring iron contamination to plant.
