A New Digital Relay Protection Device Using Single CPU
With further promotion of smart grid, the relay protection devices have higher requirements in intelligence, high integration and local installation.In this paper, a new digital relay protection device using single CPU is developed according to the new features of Smart Grid.The device uses a single CPU chip(800MHz dual-core high-performance processor) to complete all the functions which have been realized by traditional protection device with multiple CPU modules before.In order to improve reliability, AMP CPU architecture mode is used.The first core runs bare metal mode, designed for protection, and the second core runs LINUX operating system, which is responsible for communications and protocol processing.The external interfaces are only one power channel and three fiber Ethernet channels,including two 1000Mbit/s channels for SV/GOOSE /MMS messages integration and a 100 Mbit/s channel for maintenance.The protection device may have line protection, transformer protection, monitoring and control functions through the configuration tools.The experiments show that the differential protection and overcurrent protection action time of new digital relay protection device is 20% faster than the traditional protection device.
