Study on the Impact of AC Protection Employed in UHV AC/DC Hybrid Power Grid

  Large simulation model of UHV AC/DC hybrid power grid based on true parameters of China Eastern Power Grid (CEPG) has been constructed and includes the following:two sets of-±-800kV UHV DC protection and control models based on engineering parameters, two sets of ± 500kV EHV DC protection and control models based on engineering parameters,CEPG UHV AC ring network, and CEPG 500kV AC backbone network.Degree of confidence of this simulation model has been verified through comparison with electrical characteristics of BPA (of the same scale) simulated stable state faults and electrical characteristics of actual site fault transient states.Based on this model, according to characteristics of DC protection and control systems, in combination with AC system operation and fault characteristics and actual operation conditions of UHV transmission of power fsrom Anhui Province to East China project, various normal and faulty operating conditions of the hybrid power grid have been simulated, with electrical characteristics of the UHV AC/DC hybrid power grid extracted and summarized.Based on this,effect on existing mainstream AC relay elements has been analyzed, including differential protection, pilot protection,distance protection, ZS directional protection, and NS directional protection.Further, relevant type selection and setup recommendations have been proposed for AC relay protections used in UHV AC/DC hybrid power grid
