IEC 61850 Engineering Process of Multivendor Intelligent Electronic Devices for Breaker Failure Protection Scheme
Introduction of IEC 61850 Standard for the substation communication has transformed the conventionalhardwired based engineering process to the XML format based engineering process using Substation Configuration Language (SCL) files.The physical wiring connection between the devices can be replaced by mapping the signal required to the IEC 61850 Generic Object Oriented Substation Event(GOOSE) message through the SCL files integration.By adopting the standard, it will simplify the engineering process by integrating the SCL files for the substation protection and control scheme design and enable an open communication for multivendor devices implementation.Besides that, it also offers flexibility to expand the substation in the future by only integrating the new device SCL file to the existing file.Based on the advantages of the standard, this paper will highlight the IEC 61850 engineering and configuration process for the Breaker Failure Protection scheme implementation.This paper will show the integration process of the SCL files of multivendor Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) for the scheme configuration and the link of IEC 61850 information in the SCL files to the BFP scheme logic in the IEDs and their significance.
