A Study on Procedure of Selecting Reactive Power Compensator Location to Improve Transient Stability
In transient state, voltage maintaining is very important to operate High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) system.Because voltage collapse can cause commuting failure at convertor then this false operation leads to a bad influence to system transient stability.Therefore Static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) is commonly used with HVDC system to improve system transient stability from the perspective of voltage.But the effect of the reactive power compensator varies in different install location and rated capacity.The selection of location to install STATCOM is crucial In this paper, selection procedure of STATCOM install location is proposed to improve power system transient stability when severe event is occurred.Short circuit capacity (SCC) and electrical distance from the bus bar where the fault is occurred are considered in the procedure.
