Improvement on Special Protection System Design for Sending-end Power Grid with High Penetration of Wind Power
Recent cascading failures in several power grids worldwide have highlighted the necessity to adopt special protection systems. It becomes even more necessary for large scale sending-end power grid with high penetration of wind power to be deployed with Special Protection System (SPS).This paper presents a SIS that is deployed in a typical high wind penetration sending-end power grid, Tong-Xing power grid, including an emergency generator and wind farm tripping control for transient stability.Phasor measurement is utilized to enhance the model accuracy for transient stability study.Further some practical considerations for SPS implementation are explained and illustrated with examples.
