Control and Protection System Design for Tripole HVDC Transmission System
Conversion of AC lines to DC lines is an efficient option to improve the capability of the existing AC transmission lines.In this paper, based on 500 kV Jiangsu Shipai-Shanghai Huangdu AC transmission line parameters, the tripole HVDC transmission system electromagnetic transient simulation model is established by using PSCAD / EMTDC software.The optimum structure and functional configuration of the control and protection system are proposed according to the tripole HVDC system topology.Current modulation control characteristics as well as transient fault recovery performances of the tripole HVDC transmission system are simulated and compared with the conventional HVDC transmission system.It is verified by the simulation results that the tripole HVDC conversion scheme is feasible in technology, the proposed control protection system configuration and functions can meet the requirements of tripole HVDC, and the line transmission capability can be greatly enhanced after conversion of AC lines to DC lines.
