A Template Definition Method for Relay Protection Based on EMS

  In accordance with the problems that the huge number of relay protection signals can not be identified by dispatcher and can not be used to analyze power system faults, a template definition method for relay protection based on EMS was proposed in this paper.In accordance with the different demands by different departments of dispatch control center, two main definition methods can be distinguished: monitoring definition method and function definition method.Both two methods are based on the template, which is formed by screening and generalizing relay protection signals.Monitoring definition method means that the template is divided into three categories:action, warning and change of state, according to operation monitoring requirements.Function definition method means that the template is divided into different categories according to different protect function, and put real function meaning to each category.Rule extraction and filtering model (Data Mining) play important roles in the process.Using iteracive algorithm, defined the template repeatedly until the template had finished defining.The result of emulation and field test prove that the definition method has a wide practical value, its versatility and flexibility make it easy to be used in different dispatching control system.Millions of relay protection signals have been reduced to0.8% ~2%.The range of signals could been maintain with little manual intervention.The filtered signals have formed a redundant template and a common template.The redundant template would been used for extending the common template with manual intervention and rule extraction.The common template would be stored in template expert database after classifying.Once getting relay protection signals, the first step is to match the common template and get its attribute definition:function, type and class.It is possible to analyze power system fault with relay protection signals based on the attribute definition.
