Minimum Transformer Losses Based on Transformer Economic Operation and Optimized Tie-switches Placement
A methodology for 33/11 kV transformer operation mode (TOM) variation in distribution networks is proposed in this paper. The objective is transformer loss reduction with the consideration of voltage issues.Methodologies are based on the Monte Carlo Method and relevant results of transformer economic operation are presented. It has been proved that the economic operation mode could achieve minimum losses and satisfactory voltages. In addition, an approach for placement of tie-switches in a linked 11 kV distribution network is illustrated. The control centre could change the status of each tie-switches based on load data and simulated power losses from the test system at each time interval. The proposed approach has been applied to the test system, and the effectiveness of the optimized tie-switches placement strategy to achieve minimum transformer losses has been demonstrated through the results obtained.
