Research on the Direction of Installed CT for Distribution Automation System

Distribution automation system which plays an important role in power supply observes and controls FRTUs(Feeder Remote Terminal Unit). In the field of DAS (Distribution Automation System), many algorithm studies based on voltage, current, power factor from FRTU has been carried out. However, most of the studies are conducted by using magnitude of current or under given phase of current because of the inaccuracy of voltage, current and phase data measured by FRTU.Therefore, more accurate phase data of current are required in order to improve DAS reliabilities and perform further studies.Phase data of current can be calculated through power factor information on CT, and identifying a direction of CT is imperative to achieve more accurate data of the power factor. But direction of CT installed from DAS does not exist because the penetration rate of the distributed generator is increasing, and interconnected switch is changing over time because of overload. This paper proposes five rules identifying direction of CT installed in the distribution system. In case study, each rule is applied to simulation system then result is confirmed through the MATLAB.Through the rule proposed about the CT direction in this paper, if operator knows the direction of CT installed in distribution automation system then he can add the data in the database, the values of power factor measured from the CT can be modified to fit the CT direction and accordingly obtain a high accuracy current phase data.
