Innovative and Integrated Field Testing on Busbar Differential Protection

  With the transmission network becoming more and more complex nowadays, busbar protection is also becoming remarkably complex.In order to achieve proper selectivity, the relays for the busbar protection usually adopts comprehensive schemes and coordination.There are various laboratory-based methods to verify complex busbar protection schemes.However, it is still difficult to achieve the field commissioning test for busbar protection at the integrated scheme level due to the scale of protection scheme, the closed loop test, fault simulation and time synchronization.This paper presents an innovative testing solution to resolve the existing challenges, by implementing integrated scheme-level tests, circuit breaker behavior simulation,comprehensive fault simulation and high performance time synchronization of multiple fault current generations.
