A Novel Traveling-wave Fault Location Method for Double-circuit HVDC Transmission Lines on the Same Tower
The mutual electromagnetic coupling between two circuits, the imbalance and frequency characteristic of the transmission line parameters lead to the overlapping of three line-mode components of the initial travelling-wave in double-circuit HVDC, which brings difficulties to choose the velocity and measure the traveling-wave arriving time.After studying the phase-mode transformation method of double-circuit FIVIDC, this paper describes a new fault location algorithm based on single-circuit information.It can remove the influence of overlapping in the initial travelling-wave by eliminating a line-mode component, and then in accordance with the characteristics of fault travelling-wave, this proposed algorithm adopts different line-mode velocity when a fault happens in different poles.Finally, simulations are performed in PSCAD/EMTDC and the results have shown that the proposed algorithm is efficient to locate the faults with high accuracy over the entire transmission line.
