A Novel Method for Condition Monitoring of MOA in Smart Substation
This paper proposes a novel method for condition monitoring of MOA (Metal Oxide Surge Arresters). In smart substation, the process bus based on IEC61850 has replaced a lot of conventional hard-wired circuits. The current and voltage signal are modeled in IEC61850, and they can be shared by multiple IEDs with SV (Sampled Values) services over process bus.At first, this paper analyzes the issues which traditional online monitoring IEDs of MOA have to face when they are used in smart substation. Then a novel method which acquires power system busbar voltage via SV from Merging Unit is provided. The monitoring system consists of two parts, the front-end Leakage Current Acquiring Sensor and the data processing IED.Leakage Current Acquiring Sensor is mounted at the base of MOA, while IED is installed in the outdoor cabinet in the substation, IED receives SV frames via optical fiber from Merging Unit and current data via RS-485 bus from Leakage Current Acquiring Sensor.Experiments show that measurement accuracy of resistive current meet requirements of industry technical specification. In addition, this method has more flexibility in design and application, close integration between devices to facilitate engineering design and replacement. The cost of project is lowered and the engineering efficiency is increased.
