Stability of jointed rock slopes investigated by shaking table tests

To give a demonstrative overview of the generally complex process of jointed rock slope failure associated with seismic shaking,a series of shaking table tests was performed.Jointed rock slopes were modeled by concrete blocks with the same dimensions of 45 mm long and a cross section of 25 mm × 25mm,stacking on a frame fixing tightly over a shaking table (2.0 m × 1.0 m,Figure 1).A piece of polyfoam with a thickness of approximately 5 cm was mounted on the right sidewall of the frame in order to absorb the energy impacted by the sidewall during the shaking. The model slope was subjected to sin waves with a peak acceleration of 300 gal and a frequency of 5 Hz.
