Effect of Coke Micro-Textural and Basic Metal Oxide on Coke Strength Characteristics

Coke microtexture is one of the most important quality factor of blast furnace coke. The development of the optical microscope provide the most appropriate method for measuring these feature.Coke microtexture can be represented by the index of OTI,ΣISO and Mosaic Carbon. The OTI-describe anisotropic optical texture and can be calculated with the value of optical texture index evaluated by the research.ΣISO describe isotropic optical texture and can be calculated with the value of the Isotropic and the Fusinite and frag metal texture.Mosaics volume can be calculated with the Fine mosaics and Coarse mosaics. The coke strength is refer to the strength after carbon dioxide reactivity. The paper research that the coke strength is associated with the microtexture and basic metal oxide through the optical microscope and the high temperature reaction furnace.Result indicate that coke contain significant proportion of isotropic carbon and different size of anisotropic carbon. The coke thermal properties and coke anisotropy had good correlation, the coke strength after reaction was increased with the increase of anisotropy. The mosaic have positive effect on the coke strength after reaction while the Σ ISO have negative effect on the coke strength after reaction. The middle rank coal is the most important part in blending coal.In this study it was also found that the coke strength after reaction was affected by the basic metal oxide and the Coke Porosity. The basic metal oxide and the Coke Porosity have negative effect on the coke strength after reaction.
