Model Study on Inclusion Coagulation in Liquid Steel with Large Difference in Initial Particle Sizes
Kinetic study of turbulent coagulation of nonmetallic inclusion in liquid steel becomes important recently, because it affects steel quality strongly through two different ways: one is the enhancement of removal rate due to large floating velocity and the other is the quality deterioration due to the entrapment of large inclusions in final products In this study,a mathematical model of turbulent coagulation is reviewed first, and then the methods for obtaining the coagulation rate and the size-distribution of coagulated particles are explained.Subsequently, our newly developed mathematical model is introduced, which is applicable to the case of large size difference in the initial particle size, which is possibly applied to hetero-coagulation between different kind of particles such as small oxide particles and large slag particles.
