Digital River Basins:Trends and Critical Techniques
The paper introduces the recent advances of the four river modeling systems in China,including Digital Heihe River Basin,Digital River Basin Model,Nature-Human Dual Evolution Modeling System and Yellow River Numerical Modeling System.Following the introduction,new trends are given in developing river basin modeling systems in terms of the philosophy,approach,quality control,models integration and support subsystem setup.The key point of the tendencies is that a river basin modeling system,which is expected to do fully coupled modeling of the changing processes of water,ecology,and economy,must be formed as a comprehensive system integrated with multiple modules on a public developing platform,be tested and evaluated in a systematic and scientific way.Besides,data assimilation and model parameterization techniques are helpful in the setup,test,evaluation,and application of the river basin modeling system.At the end,the authors suggest the research activities should be orientated towards:① uncertainty analysis;② mega complicated data management and visualization;③large scale multi-discipline river basin modeling system integration with cloud computation; ④application of Karman Filtering and 3D/4D variation assimilation techniques ;⑤mixed river basin virtualization;⑥water cycling processes and transport/changing processes of multiple matters and their modeling.
