Warping for Sediment Utilization of the Yellow River
The Yellow River is a well-known heavily sediment-laden river in the world.The sediment issues caused by redundant sediment yield from catchment and sediment deposition in the river channel,such as serious soil erosion,aggravated river bed of the lower Yellow River (the LYR),decrease of reservoirs storage capacity,irrigation canal obstruction,etc.are so harmful to the harness of the Yellow River.While,considering the sediment as one of nature resources,sediment issues would be mitigated with sediment rational uses.By sediment utilization,the excessive useless sediment will be changed to helpful resources.Warping is one of the most efficient measures for sediment utilization.In this paper,depending on the sediment features and flood control conditions of the LYR,some practices of warping for sediment utilization in the Yellow River are introduced.These include warping for irrigation,warping for consolidating levees,warping for heightening and widening the ground of levees which is used to construct the relatively normal river.Warping for sediment utilization would be of significant for the integrated management of other heavily sediment-laden rivers.
