Experimental Study on Non-contact Flow Monitoring System Used at Gates of the Lower Yellow River

  Flow monitoring system used at gates of the lower Yellow River,with low level application of automatic system,can not satisfy the modernized and refined management in water supply.Many advanced instruments,such as electromagnetic flow-meter and Doppler current-meter,have been introduced in recent years.But each instrmnent has its own limitations,and can not solve all the complicated questions we meet in measuring water velocity at gates of the lower Yellow River.In the study we use non-contact flow monitoring system to suit wide and shallow channel of the Yellow River.Although it has been widely used in foreign countries,the system is used in the Yellow River for the first time.It is composed of three parts: data collection system,data analysis and calculation system,and data transmission system.The instrument of data collection,non-contact radar flow meter,is hung up in the air,without contacting the surface of water.The system has the advantages of easy installation and maintenance,with less measurement error in terms of precision of the measurement.The measurement method can affect the accuracy of the system.After the system was installed at the Liuyuankou Gate,we compared the experimental data measured by the system with that obtained from underway ADCP.It was found that precision of the data meets the flow specification requirement.Then we have compared experimental data measured in different conditions and refined the measurement method for the system.The study has paved the way for the successful application of the non-contact system in the lower Yellow River.
