Study on GIS-Based Simulation of the Minor Watersheds with a Check Dam System

  The backbone dams of the dam system in a minor watershed were taken as the main object,while the study was focusing on the application of the 3S-tchnology.The optimal dam sites were selected by calculating the maximum values of the storage capacity to engineering quantity ratio curves along the gully directions.The essential data acquisition of watersheds was performed using the remote sensing technique.The data was processed with the geographic information system,the computer graphics technique,the database technology and the virtual reality technology.Based on Windows platform,the object-oriented approach,the 3D visualization technology,the virtual reality technology and other advanced technologies were used to improve a conventional 2D data model to 3D space.The GIS system model,taking the digital ortho image,the digital elevation model,the digital line graph and the digital raster graphic as a comprehensive treatment object,was developed to study how to acquire the recognition of spatial relations between dam height and storage capacity,dam height and area of built land,dam height and engineering quantity,and individual dams by laying out works or cutting cross-sections on topographic maps.The dam system space-time topology model and the interval hydrological analysis model were established,and based on which,a GIS-based digital simulation system of the check dam system in a minor watershed was built,realizing the3D solid model presentation of planned dam system layout,real-time display,tabulation and output of the engineering information (dam height,storage capacity,area of buih land,etc.) of various check dams as well as top view of 3D dynamic demonstration and flight observation of dam system in different operation phases and under storm flood condition.
