Calculation Methods of Water Temperature in Lakes and Reservoirs and Results Analyses

  The empirical formula methods and mathematical model methods for calculating the water temperature in lakes and reservoirs were introduced in detail,and the two methods were applied respectively to the calculation ofwater temperature in the Xiangxi Bay of Three Gorges Reservoir,China.By contrast and analysis,it was shown that the empirical formula methods needed few data in calculation.However,the empirical formula methods were based on a lot of measured data,the general rules of water temperature changes in lakes and reservoirs could be expressed,so the error was large in Xiangxi Bay,the RMSE of temperature between calculated values and measured values was 1.063 ℃.In this paper,the vertical temperature in Xiakou monitoring point of Xiangxi Bay was computed by the methods of mathematical model,the RMSE was just0.349 ℃.In addition,only vertical profile of water temperature could be obtained by empirical formula methods.A hydrodynamic-water temperature mathematical model was constructed in this paper,taking into account many factors such as the terrain,the convection,the wind force,the inflow temperature,the solar radiation,the operation of Three Gorges Reservoir,which could show the three-dimensional water temperature distributions in Xiangxi Bay.
