Studies on the Effect of Cooling Water Drainage of the Rabigh Power Plant in Saudi Arabia to the Nearby Wharf

  This paper is the hydraulic model test on energy dissipation and erosion control at the drainage oultlet of the 2 × 660 MW fuel power generating units of the Rabigh Power Plant in Saudi Arabia.The scale of the normal hydraulic model is 1:40.The study is depend on the gravity similarity criterion.According to the test results: in the design scheme,open channel water flows into the deep sea and is fully dissipated.The flow near the outfall and the wharf is steady under different conditions.The speed of flow is lower than the start-up speed of natural sand.And the beach nearby the ouffall and the wharf was not washout when cooling water was discharged from the drainage open channel to the sea.The part movable bed model was designed according to similarity theory of sand startup speed.The beach nearby the discharging channel and the wharf has not had the washout destruction according to the scouring test.Along the beach of the drainage open channel and the wharf of the Rabigh Power Plant is affected by the waves.Therefore,the washout protection question nearby the drainage open channel and the wharf must be considered in the wave-sih model test at the same time.
