Study on Deposition Morphology of Xiaolangdi Reservoir

  By October 2010,the mainstream delta vertex of Xiaolangdi Reservoir had moved to cross section HH12 which is 18.75 km from the dam,and the amount of sediment reached 2.822,5 × 109 m3.The results show that,under the same amount of sediment and water storage,compared with cone deposition morphology,the backwater length of delta deposition morphology is obviously shorter,the water lever before dam is obviously lower.The delta deposition morphology is obviously superior to cone deposition morphology in the aspects of trapping the coarse sand and discharging the fine sand,reducing deposition,optimizing process of outlet water and sediment and so on.The delta deposition morphology is beneficial to shape density current,and the sediment ejection effect of density current is superior to backwater free flow.Therefore,we suggest timely sediment ejection should be carried out at present so as to delay the transformation from delta deposition morphology into cone deposition morphology as long as possible.Studying deposition morphology can supply some technical supports for later operation of Xiaolangdi Reservoir.
