Study on Asynchronous Self Excitation and Appropriate Measures During the Implementation of the Blocking Filter in Tuoketuo Power Plant

  Asynchronous self-excitation (ASE) is one of the three different types of Sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) in a series capacitor (SC) compensated system with turbine-generators.ASE problems of generating units in Tuoketuo power plant occurred when the BF were putting into operation,which was not anticipated in advance.In this paper,the process and result of the BF first attaching to power grids and the verification test results and its analysis is introduced.The reasons and conditions of unit ASE by BF are analyzed.The unit ASE and its difference to torsional interaction (TI) are intuitively explained by the data of field test.Through direct and quadrature axis load rejection method, the generator synchronous operation parameters were obtained to study TI and torque amplification (TA). Through the BF to excite generator asynchronous operation, the generator asynchronous operation parameters were obtained to study the unit ASE problem. At the same time, the method to avoid ASE by adding resistance in the reactance device loop is presented. Through mutual authentication of Eigen value and the simulation program, using asynchronous generator parameters obtained from the field test, the minimum resistance needed for the blocking filter to prevent unit ASE is obtained. Then the check calculation and analysis using asynchronous generator parameters (AGP) were carried out, it showed that the calculation and the test result is consistent with the basic. In 2010 November the relevant test and the check calculation for ASE in the joint commissioning test of SC and the BF were carried out. In addition, since BF and SC in 2011 January all put into operation, the generator of Tuoketuo power plant subject to normal and emergency operating condition test, ASE did not occur. Through the tortuous experience and a large number of experimental data in the implementation process of BF, this paper selects typical events of the test and operation to analyze and explain the method of how to avoid the unit ASE in the process of SSR suppression measures design, and the special requirements to generator parameters for SSR problem analysis. Considering the unit ASE problem in the process of BF commissioning, related equipment manufacturers were organized to develop ASE protection devices, and the ASE protection was applied successfully in Tuoketuo power plant. The theory of asynchronous self-excitation protection, the implementation scheme and the operation results are introduced. The successful solving of ASE problem in Tuoketuo power plant has laid a solid foundation for the successful puting into operation of SC with BF.
