Studies of numerical stabilities in contact problems on practical applications
The computer calculation for numerical analysis rounds off error using a finite digit computer.Most difficulties entailed in the unstable numerical analysis of contact problems arise from the roundoff error using finite digits,especially when solving elastic body kinematic models.The authors classified contact problems associated with roundoff error into three categories: contact searches,contact mechanisms,and contact solutions.A contact search can be further classified as a classical local search by geometry(Shi,1989),a global search(Shi,2013)with set theory,or an optimal search using linear programming(Boon et al.,2014).The methods for modeling the contact mechanisms of an elastic body are classified as the analytical method,the direct method,the Lagrange multiplier(Simo et al.,1985),the penalty method(Shi,1984),and the augmented Lagrangian method(Lin et al.,1995;Beabanakiet al.,2005; Shao,2011)from the perspective of roundoff error.The methods for modeling the contact solutions of motion are classified into the explicit method,the combined explicit / implicit method,and the implicit method.The authors present the reasons for unstable problems in contact problems in elastic bodies and countermeasures for several samples by DDA.
