Recent extensions on DDA-theory and application

  The report includes four parts.Firstly,a simple two block DDA simulation model which can be solved analytically is established to deal with the open-close iteration of DDA.With the theoretical formula obtained,the interrelations of elastic modulus,spring stiffness,time step and the penetration displacement are studied quantitatively.Thus,the mechanical process of the open-close iteration is analyzed in full length.Secondly,In order to have an insight into the DDA time integration scheme,the performance of Newmark time integration scheme for dynamic equations with kinetic damping is systematically investigated,formulae of stability,bifurcation,spectral radius,critical kinetic damping and algorithmic damping are presented.Combining with numerical examples,recognition and suggestions of Newmark integration scheme application in the DDA static and dynamic analysis are proposed.Thirdly,a mechanical model for anchor bolt which the dowel effect can be considered is implemented in mixed higher-order DDA program,and numerical examples are illustrated.The last part of the report introduce some engineering applications,which include failure mechanism of layered steep-dipped rock slope,limit bearing capacity and failure mechanism of a tunnel-type anchorage,etc.
