Manifold method with independent covers for the simulation of crack propagation

  A new manifold method with independent covers(ICMM)is employed for the simulation of crack propagation.In the ICMM,the requirement for the complex algorithm for cover generation and the rank deficiency due to the linear dependence in conventional NMM can be well treated,and the switch from continuous analysis to discontinuous analysis can be unified in a same framework.The SIFs(stress intensity factors)for various types of cracks,such as kinked cracks or curved cracks,can be easily computed,and the modeling of crack propagation is simple and convenient in ICMM.Numerical examples indicate the correctness and the validity of the proposed method.
