Parameter studies of Poisson effects on the jointed rock mass by DDA method

Rock mechanics problems are usually sensitive to the deformability setting of rock mass in a numerical modeling. The joint stiffness and the stiffness of the intact rock may affect the mechanical behavior of an assembled rock mass.In this paper, the Poisson effects of jointed rock mass were discussed by changing the parameters of(1)the joint geometry and(2)the elastic properties of the intact rock.Following the discussion,an example of trap door problem was presented to analyze the application of the Poisson effect by the discontinuous deformation analysis(DDA).A changeable joint stiffness model was proposed to simulate the complex trap door problem when the assemble rock behaved from intact rock dominant to joint dominant system. The results can guide the further parameter settings for DDA analyses.
