Slopes stability analysis combining particle flow code and limit equilibrium method
Based on particle flow code and limit equilibrium method,a new method is proposed to obtain critical slip surface and to determine the factor of safety of the slope. After calibration process, slope model of particle flow code can be made by excavation process on rectangular assembly of particles.Gravity increase method is utilised to render the slope model critical state of failure. As soon as the continuous failure surface forms, the data of particles on the critical slip surface also can be determined and output by FISH functions.Connecting the center of all these particles forms the critical slip surface, which is more consistent with the actual situation in nature due to no assumption of critical slip surface in this method. Then the factor of safety is calculated by Spencer method that has the ability of dealing with noncircular, complex slip surface. This method proves to be a promising tool to analyse slope stability and to study progressive failure process of slope.
