Simulating fragmentation and hydraulic fracturing in rock mass
Discontinuities(i.e.cracks,fractures and faults)naturally exist in rock mass.Analyzing the evolution of these discontinuities is of great importance in many engineering fields.Modelling the collision of rock blocks and the propagation of multiple fractures inside rock mass are still challenge works, especially for 3D problems.A novel Energy Tracking Method(ETM)is proposed by author for simulating the collision of rock blocks, which is then combined with Finite Element Method(FEM)to simulate 3D rock fragmentation. The author also model the propagation of 3D multiple fractures without remeshing, using eXtended Finite Element Method(XFEM),Generalized Finite Element Method(GFEM)and numerical manifold method(NMM)in 3D.For the purpose of exact numerical integration, the 3D elements are required to be divided into a set of subdomains. In this work, the author developed a stable library for this3D element partition.
