Stable fiber delivery of millimeter wave signal by fast phase compensation system

  We demonstrate a millimeter wave signal remote dissemination system,which transfers a phase-stabilized 300.045 GHz signal over 40 km optical fiber.The phase fluctuation induced by the separate path and optical fiber transmission is detected by dual-heterodyne phase error transfer and compensated with fast response acousto-optic frequency-shifter.Moreover,the feedback network is designed with frequency independent in mind such that signal processing is performed at intermediate frequency rather than radio frequency.At laboratory tests,the residual phase noise of the remote 300.045 GHz signal is measured to be-55.4 dBc/Hz at 1 Hz offset,and long-term stability of less than 1×10-16 at 1000s averaging time is achieved.
