Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Flow using Seamless Immersed Boundary Method

  In this paper,the simulations of incompressible turbulent ow around a moving and deformable object are presented by applying the seamless immersed boundary method (SIBM) to the large eddy simulation (LES) on the Cartesian grid.The static Smagorinsky model with the wall damping function is adopted as modeling the subgrid-scale (SGS) component in the present approach.In order to validate the SIBM for the LES of the ow around a object with moving boundary,the LES of turbulent ow around a moving sphere in the stationary uid is considered.The present result is compared with the reference ones obtained by the LES of the ow around stationary sphere in the uniform ow.It is shown that both results are in very good agreement with each other.Finally,a swimming sh model which is a moving and deformable object is considered.And,the LES of the ow around a sh model under the conditions close to the ow around an actual sh is performed.Then,by the present swimming motion,the vortex sheet arranged in reverse to the Karman vortex sheet can be simulated and the thrust force can be conrmed.
