Shock-Capturing Analysis of High-Order Schemes through Analytical Solution of the Discrete Schemes and their Equivalent Differential Equations

  Shock capturing is analyzed for residual-based compact schemes (RBC) of 5th and 7thorder of accuracy.Exact expressions are found for steady discrete shocks and continuous shock profiles of equivalent differential equations (EDE) for a general convex conservation law.The results show the validity of EDE as a continuous model for shock capturing with these high-order schemes.The present analysis is applied to control oscillations in steady discrete shocks.A simple correction of the RBC schemes is also tested for moving shocks of the Euler equations.
