Numerical investigation of the performance of a calandria based reactor under varied orientations of injection
Extensive numerical investigations have been carried out to arrive at the optimal design considerations for the safe working of a calandria based reactor. It is well established that enhanced heat transfer is achieved when forced convection is dominating indicating that the coolant injection should be adequately large.Varied inlet jet angles is found to be an effective parametric approach in aecting the jet mixing and thereby in enhancing the heat transfer for the same overall geometrical size of the reactor under an assigned ow rate of the coolant. The evaluation also sets a temperature limit on the fuel channels inside the calandria that ensures safety of the system. The detailed parametric analysis with the capture of complex ow structure and associated heat transfer in the reactor is carried out with the strong inlet jet to arrive at the optimal and safe working limits. The work is considered to provide a good insight of phenomena involved and oer a lead in the optimal designing of a reactor.
