History of CFD in INDIA
The paper deals with a historical sketch of birth and growth of fascinating area of science Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in India.Development of new algorithms to include high fidelity physics,higher order of accuracy and robustness and expertise in mesh generation over decades provided the super tool in capturing phenomena of complex flows.The timely growth of computing platforms with large speed and memory along with development of indigenous state-of-the-art CFD codes created ideal scenario for addressing problems related to complex practical configurations.CFD in India has reached matured stage and indigenous codes are used routinely for the design and analysis of various aerospace vehicles.Availability of low and high speed wind tunnels and shock tunnels has further enriched the science of CFD by supporting validation studies.Large number promotional activities in the form of annual symposiums,conferences and workshops are regularly held to provide common platform for engineers and scientists in the industry and academicians of leading institutions.
