Surfactant Assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis of CaSO4·0.5H2O Whiskers from Phosphogypsum Solid Waste
Phosphogypsum (PG),the solid waste derived from phosphoric acid industry,is recognized as an environmental pollutant.Application of phosphogypsum in the synthesis of calcium sulfate whisker not only reduces environment pollution, but also creates high value-added products. The CaSO4·0.5H2O whiskers were successfully prepared in the presence of hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) by hydrothermal synthesis method. The reaction template of cationic surfactant CTAB ensures whiskers growth along one direction. The results showed that the best concentration of CTAB is 0.50 wt%,and the whiskers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with large aspect ratio and uniform morphology.
