Recovery of PTA from Wasted Colored Polyester
In order to reduce the effect of waste polyester, especially the waste colored polyester on the environment.A chemical process was developed to recovery PTA using the wasted colored polyester. At the first step the waste polyester was depolymerized using EG(Ethylene glycol) as the solvent and zinc acetate(Zn(AC)2·2H2O) as the catalyst. And then NaOH was added to precipitate the PTA as salts. The precipitation was dissolved into distilled water and decolored by activated carbon. The decolored solution was mixed with concentrated sulfuric acid and generated PTA.The effect of temperature, the amount of catalyst and reaction was studied in this article. Results showed that the optimum reaction conditions were that under the temperature of 197oC,alcoholyis time of 4 hours,Zn(AC)2·2H2O dosages of 0.3%,alkaline reaction of 40 minutes with the NaOH dosage of 110% based on the polyesters. As for the decoloring process, the optimum dosage of activated carbon was 0.3%(m/v),heating time of 30min at 70oC and a stirring speed of 200rad/min.The final yield of PTA was 50%.The thermal stability of the products was investigated by the Thermo gravimetry and differential thermal analysis(TG-DTA).
