Dredged Material as Recultivation Substrate
The German Landfill Ordinance requires proof of a sufficiently large field capacity for recultivation layers. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern humus-rich and fine-grained substrate is prepared from the dredging of shipping lanes and has been used for about 15 years as landfill recultivation substrate. On four landfill sites the production and effectiveness of recultivation layers made out of matured dredged material (DM) were examined. For this purpose the used dredged material was analysed. The current functionality of the recultivation layers was examined by soil chemical and soil mechanical investigations.
